VIDEO: BÉLO, THE NEW INDIE ROOTS SOUND OF HAITI
Award-winning singer-songwriter BélO is one of the rising talents in Haitian music. His masterfully-produced album Motivasyon incorporates a wide range of dance-oriented musical influences, including modernized Haitian roots (called Ragganga), Jamaican dancehall reggae, Nigerian Afrobeats (the modern electronic genre, not the Fela Kuti Afrobeat), pop hooks, roots reggae and rock.
Motivasyon includes lyrics mostly in Haitian Kreyol although there are two songs with English-language lyrics. BélO’s lyrics seek to motivate his countrymen/women with uplifting messages.
