Meet Dain Vassell – Educator, Musician, Producer
Born in Kingston 20, Jamaica, Vassell started his musical journey at the tender age of 12 when he was introduced to his first love by his then music teacher and mentor Mr. Audley Searchwell, at The Pembroke Hall High school.
It was then that he realized music would be a part of his life and the path of his life’s journey forever because the passion just keeps growing. Out of this passion Vassell’s current movement “Legacy Mekas” was found.
Dain was one of the founding members of The Pembroke Hall High school band which would then later open up many doors for him. While out playing on one of the band’s gig Dain was spotted, and sought out by a local steel band, The Caribbean Regals. He would then go on to become one of band’s drummers and begin to travel the island performing at hotels and stage shows.
Vassell later enrolled at The Edna Manley School of Music after high school, and with just one year into his studies, his passion for the arts grew and so was the intense desire to share and educate by indulging in both the playing of music and teaching of the art.
Dain Vassell then moved on to The Mico University College where he majored in Music Education and minored in Business. After completing his studies he began his career as a music Teacher at a preparatory school in Kingston. During his tenure there he prepared his students for JCDC (Jamaica Cultural Development Commission) Music Festivals where they won numerous trophies and medals for both national and regional competitions. This would then allow him to be inducted into the Pembroke Hall High school hall of fame in 2014.
Dain later migrated to the United States where he performs with different musicians from all over the world and perform on different shows and festivals. His influencers are Dave Weckl, Peter Tosh, Carlton Barrett and Derrick “Mr Stewy” Stewart .
As mentioned earlier @legacy_mekas is now the next stage of Dain’s journey. Legacy Mekas is a movement which he created alongside Elora Marches, bass player from France and as the name suggest, they will be making great legacy music with substance the can provide good vibrational “nourishment” even to the very young. Legacy Mekas recently released “Jah Jah” with singer/songwriter MINORI (audio below) and also have a track set to release with Caleb Hart out of Canada in 2020.
